Energy Flow
Energy moves up and down our bodies: water should be pumped up and fire should flow down. What does that mean?
Well, let me give you the opposite. You don't want acid reflux (fire going up your throat) or water retention in your feet. These happen when our energy is literally "upside down"!
The yin should flow upward, and when it is stuck below the waist, we will feel so heavy and will need to manually help it to flow back up -acupuncture and acupressure massage are very helpful here. Damp foods should also be avoided as they create energetic obstructions, and prevent Qi from flowing upwards.
On the other hand, the yang should flow down. Too much yang above the waist will cause overthinking, anger, and sluggish digestion. It can also lead to headaches and migraines. Sometimes, when the liver is not soothed due to emotional upset, it can affect our spleen and stomach. When liver fire gets in the way of our digestion, it makes things go up instead of down! So when we burp a lot or experience reflux, there is something that is upsetting us. There is an emotion being rejected by the body. Of course, eating too fast or without chewing enough can cause some burps, but if you are chronically experiencing this, then there may be an unresolved emotional issue.
